In partnership with the North County Economic Development Council and Americans for the Arts, the North County Arts Network (NCAN) will present the “Arts & Economic Summit: Vibrant Community, Booming Economy.” The summit is free of charge and breakfast is provided.
Joining the keynoteote speaker, Randy Cohen, will be David Malmuth, Partner, I.D.E.A. Partners, Peter Ronchetti, General Manager, Legoland and Susan Bruinzeel, Senior Director of Planning and Research for the San Diego Tourism Authority. John Eger, Director, Creative Economy Initiative, San Diego State University will be our master of ceremony and moderator and Mike Cully, CEO of North County Economic Development Corporation, will make welcoming remarks.
NCAN’S mission for the summit is to connect the arts and business communities for mutually beneficial interactions. Goals include demonstrating the value of the arts in enhancing economic growth through increased tourism and community branding, building a stronger more competent workforce and supplying thecreativity needed for future generations of prosperity. Keynote speaker, Mr. Randy Cohen, Vice President of Research and Policy for Americans for the Arts, will make a presentation on the financial impact of the arts, highlighting job creation, generating commerce and building tourism. Mr. Cohen will also discuss the just-released, “Arts & Economic Prosperity, the national impact study of nonprofit arts organizations and their audiences.”
“As we strive to make the San Diego North County region the premier place to live, work and play, we need to focus on the significant impact the arts industry has on the quality of life here,” said North County Economic Development Corporation CEO, Mike Cully. “There are thousands of residents in our region with a wealth of talent and a powerful desire to promote and build this industry, and the San Diego North County Economic Development Council strongly supports this effort. Art enhances life and drives economic growth. It’s a very tangible element in our region and one that often makes the difference when working to attract business. It is for these reasons that we support NCAN’s efforts to highlight this industry and shine a spotlight on its contributions to North County.”
Funding for the summit was provided by grants from the County of San Diego Neighborhood Reinvestment Program and Community Enhancement Program.

Established in 2015, the mission of the North County Arts Network is to serve, advance, and lead the diverse network of organizations and individuals who work in the arts in North County and San Diego.
